KYC Troubleshooting Guide

  • Updated

Completing your Know Your Customer (KYC) verification is a crucial step in securing and maintaining access to your Deribit account. This guide will help you resolve common issues encountered during the KYC process and ensure a smooth verification experience.

1. General Requirements

  • Accuracy and Completeness:

Ensure all information provided in the KYC form is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.

Providing incorrect or incomplete details may result in application rejection or account termination.

  • Personal Responsibility:

The verification process must be completed personally by the account holder. Verification on behalf of another person is not permitted.

2. Name and Address Details

  • The name(s) and residential address entered in the KYC form must exactly match the information displayed on:

    • Your government-issued ID; and

    • Your proof of residence document.

  • Employer Information:

If your employment status is marked as “Employed”, you must provide:

    • The full legal name of your employer; and

    • The employer’s complete address (street, city, and country).

3. ID Verification

  • If you answered “Yes” to having a valid passport, please use your passport for the ID verification step.

  • Accepted IDs include:

    • Passports, or

    • Other official identification documents that show both nationality and place of birth.

4. Selfie / Liveness Check

During the liveness check:

  • Ensure your camera is accessible and not in use by another application or browser tab.

  • Maintain adequate lighting—avoid dark rooms, glare, or reflections.

  • Use a neutral background to help the system clearly detect your face.

5. Proof of Residence

Accepted Documents

  • Utility bills, bank statements, or documents from local tax authorities issued within the last 3 months, showing:

    • Your full name

    • Residential address

    • Issue date

Unaccepted Documents

  • Mobile phone bills

  • Delivery labels or waybills

  • Driver’s licenses or other ID cards

Special Case: Living with Someone Else

If you reside with parents or others and cannot provide a utility bill in your name:

  • Upload a digital bank statement or a tax authority document confirming your address.

Image Quality

  • The entire document must be visible and clearly readable.

  • Avoid blurred, cropped, or overexposed images.

6. Upload Issues

If you experience errors while uploading a document:

  • Contact compliance@deribit.com

  • If your file is password-protected, send the password to the same email address, or for corporate accounts, include it in the Notes field under the Company Documents section of the Verification menu.

7. Notes Section

When providing explanations in the Notes field, include all relevant details to help the compliance team understand your situation and verify your information efficiently.

8. Processing Time

If all required information is complete and accurate, KYC verification is typically processed within two (2) business days.

9. Technical and Security Considerations

  • VPN Usage:

Avoid using a VPN during verification, as it may interfere with location validation.

  • Email Communication:

Always contact the Deribit team using the email address linked to your account.

  • Account Ownership:

Deribit accounts are non-transferable. Ownership changes are not supported.

  • Account Type:

Once an account has been used, its type (individual or corporate) cannot be changed.

To switch account types, please create a new account.

10. Source of Funds / Wealth Verification

If your funds or wealth originate from virtual asset trading:

  • Upload screenshots, account statements, or CSV files from other exchanges that clearly show:

    • Your name or email address, and

    • The date of the transactions.
